I was first introduced to Spanish a bit in Primary School but mostly in Secondary School. After completing third form in secondary school I was very happy because I know I wouldn’t have to learn Spanish again, well that should be I ‘thought’. During the orientation when I heard we “HAVE TO” to complete a Spanish course, I was like ‘Oh my god not again’ better yet with the use of technology (computer) I was unsure about a lot of things. But after the first class everything changed I was introduced to a lot of things e.g. doing work online. At first I disagreed with the aspect of having to use a computer as there were a lot of persons who did not own one and some of those who were not computer literate, until now with the assistant of fellow classmates and Ms. V. In school, we used to like when the teacher is not present as we get to relax and chit chat with friends, but with Ms. Verbena whether present or not work was also there. I was never so much fond of the usage of the internet, but Oh my! With continuously having to check the site “sites/google.com/site/methodologyvw/home” for assignments and due date, I can now say “Me gusta navego el internet” meaning I like browsing the internet. I can remember when Miss V. first introduced herself she said, “I am a twenty first century teacher and I don’t like chalk and talk” which was fascinating to me. In school, I never really paid much attention in Spanish class as I thought learning a foreign language is not important. After arriving at CPCE and doing Spanish on a new level I now grasp the knowledge of the subject and see how is it is important in today’s society as such with knowledge of a foreign language one can move to further heights in success. During this course I was also introduced to some Psychologist and their theories, for instance H. Gardener and his theory of Multiple Intelligence and S. Krashen and his Low Affective Filter theory. With this, I now have a better understanding on the different way children learn and how to create a more conducive learning environment that caters for everyone. A very interested aspect of this course was the creation our Wiki, it’s just like facebook. When I am bored I updated the necessary information and upload pictures and at the same time while doing it I learn how to construct proper sentence in Spanish and a few words in advance to my knowledge. I also learnt of how to make Pop-up book and puppets which was very fun and a bit difficult. It was very thoughtful of Miss V. that even ever a task was there to complete I didn’t had to do much research as she provided links with the relevant information. There were videos and recording there to assist me when I was having problem to pronounce to certain words. One her favorite term that inspired me was, “Ah warning all yuh, it’s not the Associate, it’s the Degree that matter.” I would recommend that teachers should adopt Ms. Wilburg style of teaching in advance to our experience and they will also be more technologically advanced. In conclusion, the course outline was wonderfully set and use of computer enhanced it even more. I had fun interacting with peers and fellow teacher. The hard work and sleepless nights to complete necessary task all contributed heavily to my experience in learning. The journey in learning Spanish on a new level was very much convenient, accurate, challenging, informative and unique. It allowed me to complete my task at a time when I am relax and can focus more. I must say that eventhough there was a lot of spending (of money) it was worth it. Hats off to Miss Verbena in portraying her work in a unique way, as I never felt bored in class.
